About the Role

You will join the global Enterprise Architecture team, part of the Chief Innovation and Technology Office (CITO) within Global IT at an exciting time. The business overall, and our team especially, are growing like never before and there are countless opportunities to deliver high-value results that really make a difference. The applications and technology we support are used in every area across the whole of Dyson and you’ll be responsible for creating and maintaining models of the data and aspects of applications and their supporting infrastructure. Modelling will be done in our enterprise architecture tool and by building up a rich collection of models that align with industry standards we will be able to rapidly assess our current architecture state. You will work closely with architects from across the whole of IT, application and platform owners from within IT and the wider Dyson business, and data engineers.

 

You will be familiar with data modelling concepts including entity relationship modelling, and building data models at both conceptual and logical levels. Familiarity with physical data implementation from both relational databases and unstructured data stores is advantageous.

 

What you will do

Conduct data modelling

  • Create and maintain conceptual, logical and physical models that describe Dyson’s key business data across all Dyson’s activities including manufacturing, supply chain, commercial and corporate
  • Take business requirements and express the supporting data needs in entity relationship diagrams, catalogues and matrices that allow the models to be used by teams designing solutions
  • You will manage and maintain existing models as well as capturing and developing new ones
  • Document data models, data flows, and related processes to facilitate understanding and knowledge sharing across the organization.

 

Conduct architecture modelling

  • You will collaborate with the architects to help create models of current state and target state architecture
  • You will extend and broaden your data modelling ability to develop skills in architecture modelling.

 

Work closely with people from across the business

  • The knowledge of our data is spread out across business teams throughout Dyson, and you will be working with them to capture knowledge about the data they use from those that create and use the data through to the engineers that create the data processing pipelines
  • You will collaborate with people from all levels of the business
  • You will manage differences in data definition and cater for where different teams have different views of the same data.

 

You will collaborate with stakeholders to ensure they have access to our knowledge about data and can best use it

  • You will be proactive in working with projects to ensure they can access the information about data they need to deliver
  • You will work with multiple teams who each have their own priorities that may not align.

 

You will be a good communicator

  • You will provide updates to the CITO leadership on progress and the current state of modelling activity
  • You will help to develop and implement best practices for data management, including for data storage, data retrieval, and data sharing
  • You will present and share model information with stakeholders who may not be familiar with data modelling and be able to translate the presented information into terms they will understand.
